Breathalyze them ALL!

So I like to listen to the radio on the way to work. What I heard to day, makes me fear for our future.

Kids are getting drunk BEFORE they go to Prom, and to combat that many of the local administrations have decided to breathalyze everyone entering prom. Obviously, this being a zero tolerance state, anyone under the age of 21 with a BAC over .00 would be in trouble.

But that's not the part that worried me.

The part that worried me was the mother who called into the radio station to voice her opinion. Her fear was that if the administration is going to presume everyone guilty, that the kids who wouldn't have drank, will drink, because they are already presumed guilty.

That is ASS BACKWARDS thinking. The kids who don't drink...arn't going to drink. Period. They either have a moral opposition to it, can't get it (no big brother or sister to help out), or maybe they just don't like the taste. Whatever their reasons are, I can guarantee that a kids decision to drink or not to drink has been made over the past 4 years of High school, not by some policy put in place by the administration for ONE NIGHT. By the time prom has rolled around, you are either a kid who drinks, or NOT a kid who drinks, and no test at the door is going to change who you are.

Here's the problem, this Mom doesn't agree with the law. I don't want to make assumptions about her life, but I'm guessing she may have had a few run ins with Johnny law herself. Maybe her kid can handle it, maybe her kid isn't the problem, but this has BECOME a problem for the area, and I applaud the efforts of the school administrations. All they are doing is upholding the law, and anyone who follows the law, will have a grand old, alcohol-free time at Prom.

And don't talk to me about your rights, either. We used to just walk onto planes with bottles of liquid over 4 oz. and with out a strip search. Obviously we as the American people, are OK with giving up our civil liberties in the name of security.

Plus we all know that POST prom is when you get drunk...yeesh!

I'm with you, Benjo. And not just because we were the most straight-edge little bastards in high school --- can you believe how good we were? Goddamn!
