So Kendle and I just got back from a little trip. My parents had rented a condo in Arizona for two months so we joined them out there. Chris and Jess came too, so we were all together (including my Aunt and Grandma who live out there) on my birthday, or rather very close to it.
Anyways, we all know that MY birthday is my favorite holiday. I'm of the impression that people should get off work for it, but so far that has not caught on.
Well anyways, I have not managed to make the close knit bonds between friends that I had in Champaign, so I was a little concerned about my birthday. I mean, maybe it's just time to hang up the towel on big parties with a ton of people at them?
So color me pleasantly surprised when we went over to my grandma's house and she had balloons, and a special cake, and EVEN put Skittles out on the table as an edible decoration.
Those of you who did not know me between the ages of 6 and 13 may not know it, but Skittles are my all time favorite candy. I used to get multiple one pound bags for christmas and my birthday and I was happy as a clam.
One of the ballons said "It's all about me" on it. Does my grandma know me or what?
So after that surprise, I got to go grill out. Nothing finer than grilling meat, and drinking a beer in 75 degree weather in the dead of January. I had a blast.
Other activities included seeing the Biosphere 2 (and before you ask, the first biosphere is Earth), lunch at Harvest, a place that only uses locally produced items on the menu, a trip to a flea market called the Golden Goose, where I picked up a book to read on the bus when I finish the Steve Jobs book, and a hike around Gates Pass.
Gates Pass is a really pretty drive with a few stops that you can get out and walk around on. Its the road that takes you from Tucson to Old Tucson, which is where they filmed alot of the old western movies, before it burned down recently. Anyways, check it:
Note: Not my video, I don't rock Paula Cole on my radio.
